Detoxification is a process of giving the body a break from what it does every day in order to replenish all the compounds needed to keep us healthy.
A good detox can increase your energy level, improve sleep, memory and concentration, balance hormones, improve digestion and skin complexion. It may also help with cravings and losing weight.
Starting a Detox Program
We have organs that eliminate waste. These organs are referred to as emunctory organs. The skin, liver, kidneys and intestines are all considered emunctory organs. It is important to first make sure these organs are processing efficiently before a detox program is started.
There are different levels of detox protocols. Some are mild and simply improve liver function others are a form of fasting, still others can be intense, lasting a month. But a good detox can increase your energy levels, improve sleep, memory and concentration, balance hormones, improve digestion and skin, help break cravings and lose weight, and just make you feel more energized overall.
Getting a Yearly Detox
By doing a cleanse at a specific time of the year each year periodically you give your digestion a break. All essential nutrients, minerals and vitamins provided in the simplest form that your body needs to easily use them without the labor of digestion.
A detox is also a way to get rid of accumulated toxins that we come across in our daily lives in the products that we use, the air that we breathe and the foods that we eat. It is never good to do a detox with the intention of weight loss but weight loss can often be a good side effect.
It is important to do a detox correctly so that the body is supported properly and the emunctory organ function is taken into consideration. Doing a detox incorrectly can create stress on the body and sometimes cause deficiencies if not done properly.
