Oxygen is the most critical nutrient that we use in the body. The benefits of oxygen are not just about how much oxygen we are able to take in, but in what way that oxygen is utilized. As we age, the efficiency at which we utilize oxygen decreases locally and systemically, resulting in decreased cellular function throughout the whole body. In addition, when there is not enough oxygen, our bodies generate excessive free radicals leading to degenerative diseases and premature aging.
Ozone is a compound that contains three oxygen molecules. When administered in our body it super- oxygenates the blood causing increased production of the enzymes that form antioxidants and improved mitochondrial function. Ozone stimulates oxygenation, improves energy production and metabolism, modulates our immune system, and acts as a direct antimicrobial agent (useful in treating bacteria, viral, parasitic and fungal infections). Through these processes ozone decreases the ailments of aging and degenerative diseases.
Yes, ozone therapy is safe. Major Auto-Hemotherapy (MAH) was evaluated for safety in a study in 1980. After 5,579,238 MAH treatments conducted by 644 therapists on 384,775 patients, only 40 patients complained of side effects. Millions of patients have received ozone therapy worldwide and practitioners have documented its safety and effectiveness over and over again.
Preparing for Treatment and What To Expect
You should drink plenty of water and eat a snack or meal prior to your appointment. You should avoid taking any vitamins or minerals for 12 hours prior to the treatment. When you arrive at the office an MA will draw your blood and mix it with ozone gas. It will then be re-infused back into the body. The treatment takes about 60 minutes.
Possible Side Effects
As with all IV therapies, there is a risk of bruising, pain or swelling at the injection site. Some patients may also experience dizziness or light-headedness during the treatment. After treatment, fatigue, muscle aches and/or mild flu like symptoms may be experienced.
