Apple Watch 4 Keeps You Healthy

Last week, Apple announced the new Apple Watch 4. The Apple Watch is not only the top selling smart watch – it is the top selling wearable watch overall. You may have seen the announcement for Apple Watch. We wanted to let you know that you don’t have to be a tech geek for this technology to be a useful naturopathic care tool.


Keeping track of our health using phones and computers is nothing new – the original Apple Watch provided a step forward in real time personal healthcare. The new Series 4 Apple Watch has gone even further providing advanced heart tracking and fall detection capabilities.


Here is where it goes even further…


The new watch includes an ECG sensor which received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and signals a transitioning from a smartwatch to a medical device.

We saw the announcement and are already excited by the direction wearables are headed.


There are a lot of apps you can use with a smartwatch and one that we have actively promoted to Live Well patients is the myfitnesspal.com app. This app is one of the better apps we’ve found for allowing patients to keep a diet diary and tracking meals – keeping a log on meal choices. What makes this unique is that patients can give Dr. McConnell access to their app profile and can have a Naturopathic physician monitor, comment, and recommend improvements in real time.

If you’re not familiar with the Apple Watch or other comparable smartwatches, you can monitor things like daily activity, calorie counts, and sleep monitoring – specifically movement during sleep and hours slept.


The Apple Watch doesn’t necessarily change our health, but it gives us more information and insight to help us make better health choices.
