With GLP-1 medications, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation are common, especially early or when the dose rises.
These medications can cause pancreatitis, gallbladder problems and dehydration. Your provider watches for them.
They are not for people with a personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers (medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2), or who are pregnant. Tell your provider your full history.
The FDA says compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. Ask whether a medication is approved or compounded, and never buy from sources that skip screening.

FDA-approved labeling generally covers adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure. Your provider reviews your history to confirm whether it is safe and appropriate for you.
Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 hormone pathway. Tirzepatide acts on GLP-1 and GIP. Both are weekly injections with similar stomach-related side effects. See our semaglutide and tirzepatide pages for more.
No. The FDA states that compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and has reported dosing errors, some leading to hospitalization. Ask your provider whether any medication offered to you is FDA-approved or compounded and why.
It varies a lot. In large clinical trials with lifestyle support, average loss was about 15% of body weight with semaglutide and up to about 21% with tirzepatide over a year or more. Many people lose less, and results are never guaranteed.
Weight can return after stopping a weight-loss medication, so we plan for the long term with you. Nutrition, activity and follow-up visits matter whether or not you use medication.
Coverage varies by plan. We can provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. See our payment options or call 480-752-7600.
